Italy’s capital faced on Monday a rare snowfall, the heaviest in six years.
Authorities were forced to shut schools and send in the army to help clear the streets as the winter storm caused severe disruptions to public transport.

The Colosseum, the Roman Forum and other major tourist sites were closed to visitors. Romans came out to enjoy the unusual conditions.
