“We are galleys, artists, writers, publishers, curators, directors, art galleries administrators, assistants and interns – all in the art world – and declare that we have been touched, undermined, harassed, infatuated ignored, threatened and intimidated by those in positions power, controlling resources and opportunities. “
The letter was signed by famous names such as American photographer Cindy Sherman, Turner winner, Helen Marten, art dealer and British gallery owner Sadie Coles, Cuban-American artist Coco Fusco and Laura Barlow, curator at the Modern Art Museum in Doha.
“The resignation of one of the publishers from one of the most famous magazines does not solve the bigger and deeper problem – a world of arteo that keeps inherited power structures at the cost of ethical behavior.
Such abuses occur frequently and internationally on a large scale in this industry. We were strapped, silenced, rejected because we “exaggerated” and threatened when we wanted to expose abusive sexual and emotional behavior. We will not be silent! “, stated the signatories of the letter.
